Chinese car giant Chery is preparing to introduce its fourth brand to the UK market. The newcomer, called Lepas, will reveal its first UK-bound models very soon. News editor Jamie Edkins breaks down everything we know so far.
Over the past few years, Chinese manufacturers have certainly embraced some unusual brand names. Jaecoo blends “Jaeger” and “Cool”, while Omoda combines the “O” — symbolising the world — with “Moda”, the Italian word for fashion.
Now there’s another eye-catching name to add to the list: Lepas. The brand’s name fuses “leopard” and “passion”, and it sits under Chery International — the same parent company behind Omoda and Jaecoo.
Full details of the UK model range are set to be confirmed in the coming weeks. However, we’re expecting a selection of hybrid SUVs, likely sharing technology with models such as the Chery Tiggo 8 and the Jaecoo 7.
Lepas coming to the UK: what cars are likely?
Although the official UK line-up hasn’t yet been announced, we can make some informed predictions based on the models Lepas has already introduced in other global markets.
