The New BMW X5

The new-generation BMW X5 introduces a major overhaul, featuring the Neue Klasse design language, an expansive wraparound panoramic display, and the segment's first fully electric iX5. It integrates a powerful LLM-driven voice assistant and upgraded, semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
Design and Platform
The new X5 retains its upright, muscular SUV profile but adopts a more minimalist, futuristic aesthetic.
  • Exterior: It features a taller, illuminated kidney grille and "double-X" LED headlight signatures. The design is cleaner, highlighted by flush-fitting windows and new electrically operated "Winglet" door handles integrated into the B- and C-pillars.
  • Interior: The cabin features a fixed panoramic screen spanning the entire dashboard that places key information at a comfortable distance. It also offers sustainable and novel materials, such as slate decorative surfaces, alongside optional touchscreens for the front passenger
AI and Technology
Artificial intelligence is deeply embedded in the vehicle's mechanics and cabin experience:
  • Symbiotic Driving: The adaptive cruise and lane-keep systems learn driver behaviors, understanding if a subtle lane drift is intentional, so the car won't resist or aggressively fight your inputs.
  • Conversational AI: The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is powered by a large language model, allowing you to ask natural questions, control vehicle features, and even query complex trivia.
  • Predictive Navigation: AI and machine learning optimize electric and hybrid charging cycles by analyzing historical data to pre-condition the battery and select stations
Powertrain Options
This is the most diverse lineup in the model's history, accommodating petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, EV, and eventually hydrogen:
  • Fully Electric (iX5): The iX5 60 xDrive features a massive 141 kWh battery pack, offering up to 578 horsepower and an extensive electric range.
  • Plug-In Hybrids (PHEV): Models like the X5 50e (483 hp) and the performance-focused M60e (612 hp) blend a 3.0-litre inline-six engine with high-voltage electric motors for excellent efficiency and power.
  • Mild-Hybrid Petrol & Diesel: The updated 3.0-litre combustion engines feature revised turbocharging, the Miller cycle, and a 48V mild-hybrid system to significantly increase both efficiency and torque

The production is Spartanburg, USA starts in December 2026. With the aim to launch in the UK by Spring 2027!
